I have been giving my son weetabix and read brek since he was 6 months old. I checked with my health visitor first and she said that it was fine. I add reduced sugar jam to the ready brek to give him a bit of variety. He loves apricot jam so this goes down really well. Also chopped banana, again he loves it. I just tried him on oatabix last week, he liked that too. I've not yet tried cornflakes or anything else like that. You can also us full fat cows milk from 6 months as long as it is used in cereal and cooking, not for a drink. It is a great source of calcium.

I would start with cheerios when the child is old enough to pick them up a put them in her mouth. Soft cooked oatmeal is best before that. Many children are allergic to wheat at first so go slow with the wheat cereals. Corn Flakes are really kind of sharp and hard to handle. I guess if you let them soak in formula for a while to soften up it would be ok. Just make sure she gets a multi vitamin every day.(baby type)

8 months in general for cereals but with weetabix health professionals recommend two years and up, because so many people give them to early and the child gets bad tummy pains, but if you let them settle with warm milk the can be ok

I agree 6 months for weetabix - check the packets for sugar and salt content though. I think Ready Brek is the best one.

I'd say about 7/8 months for weetabix and about another couple of months for cornflakes. however, do not give her weetabix every day - on a practical level it has a lot of fibre in it which scrathes their bottoms. I learned to give it to my children no more than every other day.

Ive got four kids, and at six months they were eating virtually anything, i would(but liquidised!!) weetabix is fine, or ready-brek, corn flakes tend to go slimey, and get stuck in the throat, i found!!
