Becasue people think that because we're quiet, we're gullible and easily taken advantage of, and that we won't stand up for ourselves. Stand up for what you believe and believe in yourself, and people won't treat you that way as much (hopefully anymore). I have started thinking that people treat me in whatever way I allow them to. If I tell them I don't like this or that, or show that I am self-confident, they treat me with more respect.

Most people look at the superficial. They do not put themselvrs "out there" Therefore those who do not know any better, judge them as ignorant,or backward. Quieter people are thinkers, think before they speak often, and usually have something to contribute worthwhile. Ask a quiet person if he can repeat what you just said, and guanteed he was listening and will tell you explicitately.

Even if you are quiet you can still project an image of self-confidence. If you project that image and are quiet people will look at you differently. Maybe people are picking up something negative that you don't realize you are sending out.

I think it lies in human's nature. As Hobbes said, homo hominis lupus est (a person will harm you with every possiblity, in short). Everyone is seeking superiority, only few of us are real altruists. And when we visualise our purposes and realise that they are possible to achieve we start moving towards them. And why should we ('we' is a generalised agent only!) pay attention to those who don't interrupt us on this 'mission'? Moreover, guiet people usually are even unable to interrupt more active, 'louder' ones. All this taken together gves the answer: people pay attention to themselves and their purposes only and point their look away only when a barrier rises.

People see them as weak pushovers. Many of them don't express themselves or voice their opinions, so people can run over them, if they let them.

Also note that the quiet ones are not always who you think they are. A lot of times, these are the kind of girls who have babies in high school, but many of us wouldn't expect them to be the "type."

Sometimes this quiet quality is mistaken as weakness. Predators and bullies take advantage of this. Why? because they don't feel good about themselves and this is the only thing that makes them feel powerful. Sad, huh?

Because nobody is speaking on their behalf!

Take it from a formerly quiet person - learn to speak your mind! You don't have to be rude, you don't have to be loud, you just have to know that you have valid points to make and that the world will never appreciate you until you SHOW THEM WHO YOU ARE. Who can love a nobody?

Sometimes people think that when other people don't talk much, it's because they think they're better than everybody else. But then other people admire quiet folks.
