Hi i had this problem and i tried it dry, and damp as the packet instructed me to do so. And like you i found on a dry sponge i wasted half my foundation as it just soaked right into it and on the damp sponge just caused my foundation i was putting on to go weird. So in the end i just stick to putting it on with my fingers as it takes too much time doing it with a sponge and when you think you have got every where with a sponge you havent as when you get out side it leaves your skin all streaky like it hasnt been rub in properly, I dont really know of any other that are better as my one and your one has done the same.
You could try the sponge damp but if wont make a difference it just adds water to the foundation even if you squeeze the water out some still stays in and it ruins the coverage and staying power of your foundation.

Yes, a damp sponge is the way to go. Put the foundation on the back of your hand before applying to the sponge

There is nothing wrong with wetting a foundation sponge, it just sheers out the coverage of your foundation, but if you want maximum coverage I would use a brush instead.

Definatly go and get a foundation brush. A sponge soaks up about 50% of your make up!!. The brush last for like 5 years and doesn't soak up any makeup.

I use the little sponge that comes with my Elizabeth Arden flawless perfection, it is slightly greasy feeling when dry so doesn't need wetting. If using liquid foundation, I just put it on my ring finger and dot it on and then rub it in with my fingers.

You are supposed to wet it, however I have used sponges and brushes and then get told to use fingers because you can apply it better, so it depends on your own prefferance really, but just make it a little damp.

Try using a foundation brush instead...you'll save so much foundation and it's a lot more hygenic too.
Just dab the foundation onto your face then blend away with the brush. No water required. (It's also great fun 'painting' your face!)
Bobbi Brown and Prescriptives make good foundation brushes. :)

I would try a foundation brush. You use way less because it doesn't absorb, the coverage is more even and natural too.
Try target for an inexpensive brush.
