I'm a new booking agent. I know bands better than a lot of people. I'm a fan at heart. Not only that, but I know places they can play and I know crowds will show. I'll even do the promo myself if I have to

Go to the bands you want to work with, explain exactly what you can do to help them, give them your contact info. Offer to set them up a show for cheap or free to show off your skills.

You know you're kinda becoming my favourite here ^_^ I love all the efforts you take. Music video hmmm... My current favourite song by them is Codex - i would make it abstract. More like go along with the lyrics. I think they are about suicide. I'm not sure though. I would show a really depressed teenager contemplating suicide. Near a lake. Its dark and there are fireflies around. And in the end she doesn't. But years later she comes back and to that same late and remembers... Not very imaginative i know. But the beauty would come out if i ever get to do it. Nobody famous just a pretty girl. BQ - You should. My favourites change all the time :) BBQ - I haven't heard it yet :( BBBQ - I think its really nice.

most unsigned bands will not hire a booking agent as this is expensive; they will normally act as their own booking agent. If you are looking to become a booking agent then I would say you need to looker at it from another, bigger perspective, ie. by approaching signed bands, or hiring people to approach signed bands on behalf of your company. I would say, set up your company, get an office (to sign the bands that accept your offer), and get your name out there. Maybe, you could find out about a recently signed band and arrange to meet them at one of their gigs. But you should probably talk to someone with experience.

I don't mean to sound confrontational, but if you can't get bands to hire you, how are you going to convince venues to book your clients?

Remember most bands have very very little money. You won't be able to get any money up front. You'll have to do everything as a percentage of bookings. And here you'll have to work out what you get a cut of... cover charge, CD sales...? Very rarely will you be able to get a percentage of sales at a bar, but that's a consideration, too.

You've got to be able to sell yourself to the band first. If you can't do that, you're going to have problems selling that band to a club or events planner.
After a while, acts will start coming to you, but for now you've got some leg work to do on finding acts that you want to work for & then talking them into giving you a chance.
Plan on buying alotta drinks for musicians, that always helps, hehehe...

If you are good, the word will eventually get around. The problem is......lots of people THINK they are good, few really are.

Attend their shows, talk with them and tell them what you wrote in your question above.
