A used tank, in decent condition, with no accessories (like lid, light, heater, filter, etc) should cost 1-1.5$ per gallon.
If it does include accessories, then those need to be factored in as well.

It depends on the age, materials, brand/type and condition of the aquarium and what accessories you are getting with it. For me, if it were just a plain glass tank, no accessories and it were water-worthy and, at best, only a couple of years old, I would only be willing to pay maybe $30.

It depends on where u buy it. Best bet : if u hav a friend that has many tanks, you may feel more comfortable buying it from him knowing that it probably doesn't leak. It's also easier to negotiate price w a friend. Don't buy used tanks from places like petsmrt or petgo. You can try small shops run by people you trust/know.

Personally, I won't pay more than $0.50 unless I'm sure the tank is in good shape and not leaking. From a fellow hobbist that I know, I'll pay up to 1/2 retail.
