i changed the resolution on my computer to a resolution that is higher than my monitor supports and now the monitor just says "out of range" How do i fix it?

i changed the resolution on my computer to a resolution that is higher than my monitor supports and now the monitor just says "out of range" How do i fix it? The screen is blank with Out of Range flashing in the middle, i can't see to change the settings back

Repeatedly press down the F8 key that is in the row at the very top of your keyboard. It should give you a menu to boot from and select safe mode. You might have to try a few times while it is boting up. You should then be able to go in and right click on the desktop and change the resolution and refresh rate. It is probably the refresh rate that is causing you the problem. Go back to 60 and see what happens.

On the new LCD Samsung monitor I just got, there is a button just under the front edge labeled " Auto ". The book says that auto is the factory setting, or default setting. There are other buttons to alter certain things, but I don't go there, because if it aint broke, don't fix it. See if there is a default setting on it, or one marked auto. It's worth a try. You could try reading the manual, but I find them not user friendly sometimes.My IBM friend said you could reboot the PC in safe mode, then reset your monitor settings.

Restart your computer in safe mode. then go in and change the resolution like you would in normal conditions.

Right click on the desktop and go to properties or Start..Control Panel...Display

reboot in SAFE mode and then set your monitor settings
