Different colleges have different application deadlines. Moreover, some (especially public colleges and universities) have "rolling" admissions, meaning that they do not wait until a certain date to make decisons and notify people, but will look at your application and make a decision fairly soon. For those schools, the earlier you apply during your senior year the better. As far as transcripts are concerned, most colleges will want official transcripts sent to them directly by your high school, not sent by you. They will want a transcipt that covers at least through your junior year, and preferably through the first semester of your senior year. For schools with fairly early application deadlines, you will need to have two transcripts sent--one at the time of the application that goes through junior year, and then a supplemental one once your first semester senior grades are in. You should also make sure that you have taken SAT or ACT tests in time to have the scores sent to meet the deadline for the schools to which you are applying, e.g. if the deadline is Jan. 1, taking the tests in December might not make it in time. As far as envelopes are concerned, an awful lot of schools nowadays have on-line applications so you would not need to send in any paper at all, unless they require some sort of supplementary materials (e.g., a portfolio if you are applying to an art program).

Send in your application(s) in the Fall of your senior year. You are able to accept early admission, which means if you are offered a spot, you are locked into that college.

Colleges now a days look at your transcript in your senior year. They feel this gives them an insight how well you do all four years. It didn't used to be this way, but more and more colleges are going back to the four years.

I would suggest a Manila envelope that can take an application without folding it. It looks better and the presentation is nicer.

First look up the colleges that you are going to send your application to. The College deadlines will tell you when they must have your application by. Once you find this out make sure and mail it to them at least 3 weeks before the deadline. (It looks better this way) All colleges differ on what transcript they require. But it is best to send in a complete transcript. Listing all of your courses through highschool. Also. Mail your transcript in a bubble wrap or a simple yellow envelope, one that is large enough but not so big its annoying.
Good luck. College is one wild ride!

nov. of your senior year at the lastest, go to the website of the school you are planing to go to, it will have everything you need listed, and you can even apply online. When i was looking for a school, about half that i applied to had an essay to fill out with the application, if you do it online most of the time you can save your application, and fill it out as you go, so if you need to come back to it you can. if you want to mail it in, get a large envelope so you dont fold up your papers.

You should probably start sending out your applications beginning this April, after you've received the results of your ACT/SAT tests. Send the most current academic and personal related info. (volunteering for community service, extra-curriculars at school or out). If you are asked to assembled a package of information send it in a large envelope, read all instructions carefully.
