There are no hard and fast rules of pronunciation in English, save those used by the BBC now an English very much of the past which had strict rules on spoken English.

How a person pronounces words in English, very much depends upon their education. Those who have been to a public school tend to use English in quite a different manner to those who attended state schools.

Mispronunciation is usually pronounced as : -

MISS-PRO-NUN-SEE-AY-SHUN - the AY as in hay without the 'h'.

In American English the general rule of thumb is that the emphasis on a word is usually attributed to the first word of a sentence or phrase. So that, instead of saying Robin HOOD, as in spoken English, the American version is ROBIN Hood - the emphasis being on the first word. This means that pronunciation of words differs greatly between US and UK - you can hear this in the movies.

The Brits have one major advantage over the Americans when it comes to spoken English, in that we in UK get to see lots of American movies and TV shows. These educate us to the American use of English. In reverse, American see few if any British movies or TV shows. A TV show, such as 'The Office', first aired in UK but later translated for American audiences in the States, is an American version of the same show. The English used is quite different.

In the past in UK, the BBC tried to squash all regionalism out of English. This, in recent years has become to be seen as a bad thing. If you listen to the BBC or watch its TV channels, you'll see what I mean. Almost every conceivable UK accent is being aired. This has to be a good thing.

When it comes to pronunciation, leave it to your own local dialect or slang and forget about 'proper English'.

Personally I am Welsh but what you hear is Cockney Sparrow, most of the time.

yeah its often mispronounced

while we pronounce a word we usually don't think about the pronunciation but when we pronounce a word pronunciation or mispronunciation , we use to think about whether we pronouncing good or not, so when we think about it we stammer and mispronounce. Thats the reason

Because they want to keep the word "mispronounce" intact.
