I got arrested from my job for stealing they said they had me on video which they refused to show me. I stupidly confessed to stealing the items and i got arrested. When i saw my public defendent she told me that it was a misdemeanor charge and she made a deal with the prosecutor for me to take a shoplift class then bring the paper work back to the judge to prove i did it and then in 6mths my case would be dissmissed. I have never gotten in trouble before and i wanted to know if there is any way i can get this off my record and when the cases is dismissed does that mean it will stay on my record forever. I have no idea how this works. PLEASE HELP!

You got off easy. Dismissed means that the charges are dropped and you don't have it on your record except that you were arrested for it and the charges were dismissed. If you were to do it again in the same state, the judge would be able to see all of that on the computer and would take it into consideration during sentencing. There is also a thing called suspended imposition of sentence, which is a lot like what you have described. I was charged with grand theft, a felony in my state. I asked the judge for supsended imp. If I had no other offences within a year, he said the felony would never show up on my record. I still had to serve 10 days in jail as part of my sentence, but that was my punishment. So you can still get along without it on your permanent record but have to pay the consequences for your actions at the same time.

I'm sorry hear that and I'm sorry U confessed without the evidence given to you. Now all U can do is go through the court process and it may just be forgiven (well some community service work will be part of an order) and I believe that this may always come up on a crim check. But what I've done is get 2-3 crim checks done and sometimes the may out of the may or may not will NOT be ticked off and I'd consider that Your lucky day!

Good luck to You!

Congrats! You have fallen into the trap that many people fall into - assuming you can steal a few cheap things out of a store and nobody will notice!

You need a good lawyer. Although records can be eventually expunged, depending on the state and county you live in, it may be extremely hard to do, and/or cost a ton of money. Here in Florida it costs about $3500 to the courts alone to expunge a record, and then your attorneys fees on top of it.

So this will be your most expensive theft in your life... Be wise and dont do it again...

Then once you went to courtroom, you will possibly be able to desire to have been given it pushed aside. Did you no longer get a criminal expert? otherwise, you're entitled to a minimum of one expuungement of one offense. it is generally high priced, yet properly worth it. When the time is ripe, you may be able to have the case sealed &/or expunged from your records. Check your local court for the procedure- It's not too difficult to do.

Depending on your state, you can request to have your record expunged by simply filling out a form you can print off line from your local courthouse.

Don't you mean "petty larceny"? It will go off your record when you pay your fines and complete the requirements of your probation.
