Alimony, maintenance or spousal support is an obligation established by law in many countries that is based on the premise that both spouses have an absolute obligation to support each other during the marriage (or civil union) unless they are legally separated. In some instances the obligation to support may continue after separation.
Historically, alimony arose as a result of the indissoluble nature of marriage. Because divorce was rare, husband and wife remained married after their physical separation and the husband's obligation to support his wife continued. With the growing view that men and women should be treated equally the law recognized that both husbands and wives owed each other a similar duty of support. Accordingly, courts now may order either the husband or wife to pay alimony, though in practice it is almost always the husband.
Alimony usually is synonymous, as a rule, with ex-husband payments to the ex-wife.****

Alimony is court-ordered support paid by one spouse to another after they are separated. It is usually paid by the estranged husband to his ex-wife but not always. If you can show that she earns or has more money or property than you it is possible for you to get an order causing her to pay you alimony. You had better find the money to get yourself a solicitor or you could get railroaded by this monstrous regiment of women.

Alimony is a payment that is made for your kids and/or wife to help support them when the marriage breaks up. You have a duty of care to her and any children to see that they are not destitute. But, she also has a duty of care to you. You can't give what you haven't got so don't worry too much. The courts normally see that you have to survive too and will only award what is reasonable.

All depends on where you live. Most states do not have alimony anymore. If your wife works, she won't get it. If you have no kids, she won't get it then either. Check on line for where you live as to what the laws are concerning alimony.

alimony is usually paid to the spouse when divorcing if they do not work or make alot less money than the other. my husband allows me to stay at home, but does not like the idea of me working if i say i would like to, so if we separated, i would most likely get it due to the fact that he somewhat will not let me work. if your wife does work and can financially survive on her own, live like she lives now, she probably will not get any. even if you make the bare minimum, if she makes less, she'll probably still get something. marriage is grand isnt it???

If you can't stand your wife, go and divorce her! Your wife is very selfish! She doesn't care about your education, all she care is about herself!
