You know you could put the word liberal in that sentense as well. Neither liberals nor conservatives can be swayed in a debate. Both would just be more set in their views, and both would detest the other even more.

Well it depends on the conservative and liberals that are debating. As a conservative myself, I am open to debating I prefer the term discussing any issue. and I do have an open mind and if what is being said is logical and make sense and the person can answer questions i may have then i take what i hear and try to figure out ok how is my position wrong is there new info i may have over looked. But often not always, All I hear when discussing my conservative point of view is no conservatives are wrong, that wont work, we cant do that. I rarely hear no thats not right this is the right solution, no we shouldnt do that we need to do this. Take Iraq for instance, bush's plan send more troops. democrats plan, sending more troops wont work, we dont need more troop we need to get the troops home. uh ok i still dont see a democrat's plan, we arent debating whether or not to bring home the troops. yeah I'm for bringing home the troops, but there still a problem called iraq, bringing home the troops doesnt solve this problem.
So to answer your question its depends on the nonconservative that is debating the conservative and whether or not the nonconservative actually has an alternative solution, plan, or idea, and not just a no that wont work mentality.

I truly believe that a healthy debate with a reasonable person would open their minds. Most Americans simply lack knowledge when it comes to political issues. At least that is what I have found. You would be surprised by the number of people who take the media's view of things as truths and actual truths as conspiracy.
