First if both have lan conections, this is the RJ45 connetion on the back looks like an oversized phone jack, then you can get a patch cable, this is a bi-way ethernet cable, you simply plug them both end to end to each computer, then you need to force your ip one saying exp: 100.100.100.0 and the gateway 100.100.100.1 and the other 100.100.100.1 and its gateway 100.100.100.0 this can be found under network connections, use the new connection wizard on both to do this.. once you do this.. under my computer you will see the other drive (computer) on your list, it will look like a server (little wire under the drive icon) then you copy and paste from there to your h.d. if you dont then you can piggy back if you have ide, set one h.d. as master/w/slave and the other as slave. IF SATA also known as a raid connection, then you have to set it up in bios. and copy and paste from there.. Remember, the new computer is the h.d. you want as master, but if you have a new computer less than 2 years old then you will have to SATA...

If you have the same ID on both computers and are using either a crossover cable or router, you can access the other computer by doing Start-->Run-->\\computername\c$ - that will give you a window open the their C: drive.

Well, the computers have to be on a network together or you have to establish a physical connection between the 2 computers such as a corssover cable.

if you have a dvd burner then you just simply burn your whole C drive onto several dvd-rw discs, but i would suggest to go to best buy or office max or staples, and get yourself a maxtor external hard drive, this way not only can you transfer all the information to another computer but you can keep it backed up on this drive... but if your transfering data from a desktop to a laptop then theres a cheap cable and software that comes with it that you can get from www.dell.com, its universal to all pc's so yea i hope that helped.
