The International Astronomical Union has taken upon itself the naming of astronomical objects, place, things, etc. Because the IAU is composed of mostly "professional" astronomers, their names get used in most academic publications, and that's what leaks out to the rest of us.
But your point is well taken. In times past names were often associated with first discoverer, though that too was equally often ignored! With so many people looking heavenward, how do we bring some consensus to naming? Got me.
So, I *still* think you are right. Why not Discordia?
