Did you have your follow-up visit two weeks after? If not, I'd suggest you should go to the abortion clinic where you had it done and have the ultrasound and bloodwork that you need ASAP.

Anyway, the first period after an abortion tends to be wonky. You should call your doctor right away if:
You are needing more than 1 pad/tampon per hour
You are passing clots larger than a lemon
You have a fever or vomiting
You have pain that doesn't get better with pain meds, heat pads, or rest.

If your bleeding is heavy enough to saturate 2 pads in an hour, you need medical attention. The clinic probably advised you to see a doctor in 2 weeks for a follow up. Did you make an appointment? No? Then call them and ask for a referral. A heavy period is normal after an abortion, but there can be complications, especially if you don't follow instructions. Just because you don't have insurance doesn't mean you have to go to the ER. Doctors accept cash too. Don't put anything in your vagina (penises, douche, tampons) only shower (no baths) until you've been re-checked.

have you had an update ultrasound since the procedure? the reason your period is so abnormal this time is that there is probably still alot of old blood inside ( the dark heavy kind).. is it cramping or blood thats making you think that it's so abnormal this time? i will asure you that it will all pass maybe not completely this time but at least very little next time. unless you are experiencing extreme pain or signs of infection there is no need to go to the emergency room. take some advil and a hot pad and relax the cramping is muscles squezing the remaining tissue out and the heavy blood is just old.. just like the first day the cramping you felt your body is trying to clean from the iniside out. good luck, holla back if you need anything at all. I know how you feel right now !

It is most likely normal, especially if it is not accompanied by a fever or light-headedness.

Your body is trying to readjust now that it is no longer pregnant; this process could take 1-3 months.

If you really think you need medical care, go to Planned Parenthood, your local public health clinic or to Urgent Care. All of these options will be MUCH cheaper than the ER.

Try visiting a clinic to ask for their advice, or try a medical help line (not sure where these phone #s are, yellow pgs.?) and see if they have any tips or suggestions.

In my honest opinion, it seems as though it's just an after effect of the procedure (your period will be irregular for a few months afterward), but if you still feel uneasy, it would be best to ask a health professionals' opinion to know for sure.

Good Luck!!

I would call the doctor or the clinic that performed the abortion and tell them your situation. A nurse in this office should be able to answer your question. If the bleeding does subside in the next day, you could go to your local health department or clinic. They may be able to help. Good luck to you hope things work out.

You need to see a physician. Try calling your local hospital and explain your situation; they may have a referral program for people without medical insurance. Don't let this go, you don't want an infection. Good luck to you!

I am really sorry you are going through this. Can you call the nurse and ask for advice ? Or the doctor you performed the procedure ? It can be a part of follow up care.

hope everything works out for you.

Well, go to the ER right away. Who cares about a bill from the ER, make payments on it. The more important thing is that you will be safe. You life is more important than a bill. Why aren't you on medicaid?? Geez, a person needs insurance.

with the emergency room, there might be a fee that you have to pay. however, your health comes first before anything so charge your card. you can refuse medication but i wouldnt let money stop you.

ok the response above me can work too! :)
