The first day of my last period was on Jan. 15. I think. However, on Jan. 13, I had a very small amount of blood, spotting. The amount was very small. I didn't have any bleeding again until Jan. 15, when my period came as slightly heavy flow, as it normally does. There was absolutely no bleeding on Jan. 14. My period was a couple of days late, but no biggie. My question is, should I count Jan. 13 as the first day of my last period, even though there was just a tiny bit of blood. Or, should I count Jan. 15 as the first day of my last period, since it came like it normally wold have. My period was due on Jan. 11. The reason that I need to know is because my husband and I are trying to get pregnant and I'm trying figure out my fertile days this month. Give my your thoughts, I'd appreciate it! Thanks.

You should probably count the first day as the day you began bleeding normally. Many women spot before they start their periods. For conception purposes, I'd recommend checking other signs too, rather than just relying on dates. If I went by my dates, I'd never have gotten pregnant! My cycles are a bit irregular.

You should check your BBT (Basal Body Temperature) every day at the same time. The best time is before you get out of bed in the morning. You can use a regular thermometer for this or get a special BBT thermometer at the pharmacy. Chart your temperature daily. When you see an abnormal rise in temperature, this may mean you have just ovulated. Most women rise 0.4 to 0.6 degrees right after ovulation. When you notice the spike, have sex! Just after ovulation is not too late because it takes a while for the egg to move down.

Secondly, monitor your cervical mucus. Wash your hands, then feel the outside or just inside your vagina with a finger. Dryness indicates no chance of conception. This is like right after your period. As you approach ovulation, the mucus gets sticky and white - only a slim chance of pregnancy. As you get right near ovulation, the mucus gets clear and stretchy, and there's lots of it. It looks kind of like egg whites.

Third, monitor your cervical position. Wash your hands. For this, reach up into the vagina with a finger. If you touch your cervix easily, you are probably in an infertile time. If your cervix is way far back, difficult to reach, this means you are in a fertile time. The cervix gets high and soft around the time of ovulation.

That's the quickest route to getting pregnant, or to discovering any problems with your fertility. Too many women don't understand signs of fertility and so go for a long time hoping they'll get pregnant but never do. Chart your BBT, cervical mucus amount and cervical position every day. Combine this knowledge with your dates, and assuming you are perfectly fertile, you will have no trouble getting pregnant. If you match things up and don't get pregnant after 6 months or a year, you may want to see a doctor about fertility testing for you and your spouse. The most common problem with female fertility, I think, is anovulation, meaning the lack of ovulation. Most of the time this can be corrected. For many women with anovulation it's as simple as losing weight.

Anyway, I know that was a lot of information and maybe more than you wanted - but I just want to make sure all women who want to get pregnant know that there is more to it than just dates. :) Best of luck!

By the way, I am 6.5 months pregnant with a little girl. :D

You should count the morning of your first heavy flow so if it was in the afternoon of Jan 15 you would count Jan 16. But if it was the morning of the 15th you would count the 15th. That is what my clear blue monitor says to do!

Most views of the vagina are pretty lousy. There are only a few that can be a turn on. I believe the woman have the same sort of opinion about the male anatomy in that region. But then again they are not meant to be looked at as much as played with and then used as intended. At sixteen I would not be in too much of a hurry to get into bed with a girl as there are always accidents and the possibility of an unwanted pregnancy. The best thing is to talk to your partner before beginning anything and discuss both your inexperience and possibly hers and also your expectations from each other. Make sure you have more than one condom to hand and plenty of lube. Then go ahead and enjoy the experience as you learn with each other.

When trying to conceive you should always count the smallest, most minute spot as your first day. That's what my infertility specialist told me when I was going through all that. You should get a book called, 'Everything you need to know before you get Pregnant' I loaned it out so I cannot tell you who wrote it, but you could find it by the title. It explains everything that you could possibly have a question about.
Good Luck!

I have the same problem and my doctor told me to count the spotting as the first day of your period.

The 15th was day 1. Day 1 is the first day of red flow--not just spotting.

I would say the 15th, spotting is not bleeding in regards to a cycle. Have you tried the ovulation predictors. I've heard they are pretty accurate. I wish the two of you the best of luck in enlarging your family!
