The kind of people who can always see the good in someone can leave themselves open to this. It is just as important to be able to see the bad in people too. Only by making a full, honest evaluation of what you know of someone can you decide whether it is good to get close to them. Some people become freinds with or date people who have a lot of negative traits because they put their blinders on and only see their good qualities. This sets them up for more than disappointment, it makes them an available target for abuse and punishment.

Yes. Some people, for whatever reason, don't feel comfortable unless people are mistreating them. Their comfort zone is chaos and misery. In many cases, they've grown up in a very dysfunctional home and truly don't know how to deal with happiness because they've never experienced it. They seek out (often subconciously) friends and significant others who are abusive.

oh absolutely of course. do you honestly believe that there exist masochists ? of course there do. there are people who have low self esteem, and who perceive taht they deserve bad thign sto happen to them. these peopel are gluttons for punishment. i used to be one actually.
