I've heard that Mother Goose's nursery rhymes are heavily criticized in our society, and they've sometimes been taken out of school libraries . I can imagine books with foul language or sexual content violating community standards, but how can anybody be offended by Mother Goose's nursery rhymes ? I know some people have called a few rhymes "sexist" ( "frogs and snails and puppy dog tails" ), but what other complaints do people have against Mother Goose's nursery rhymes ? Do Mother Goose's critics have any case at all ? Where can I find examples of criticism of Mother Goose's nursery rhymes ? Thank you for your answers .

This link is to the New York Book Review. I could not find the essay to which the writer alludes - but if you google Richard Darnton, mother goose you will find many articles.

i do no longer think of - i could have enjoyed - nursery rhymes of this nature. genuine existence is macabre sufficient. Why set the diploma for undesirable visions - while adulthood would be complicated. We ought to have our fairy thoughts - to ease the anxious tough ?
