I suggest you go to several reputable jewelry stores. They most likely will not try to BS you since their reputation is more valuable then your stone. Just because "diamonds" scratch glass does not make them real. I would not tell them the source of your stone, say something like from my grandmother . You may want to dress up a bit first. You are selling yourself as well as the stone. Get at least a second opinion and probably a third. Even if your stone is real there are many factors that go into the value. Don't let them take it out of your sight, say in to a back room because it could be swapped. Take it to them and let them know you want to get it appraised to possibly have the diamond put into a setting. Meaning a ring made and the diamond put in it. Let them know that your grandmother gave you the ring and you would like to possibly have it put into a engagement ring. Ask them how much you could expect to pay for that service and then talk about the value of the stone. Good luck and hope you get a big pay off. Also, if the stone is not worth much maybe the person that lost it feels it has sentimental value and you could try to find the original owner.

STOP SCRATCHING glass with it, that's in the movies, diamons are very hard but they can also get damage. Forget the pawnshop for now; they'll tell you is worthless and offer you $10 or $50 bucks "as a favor" (some of them know you can't ask for too much if it's stolen). Go to a some GOOD jewellries, you might find somone willing to give you an expert opinion, once you know for sure the real value, decide who can give you the best price.

But firs if it real an you "found it" then there must be police report, so be careful not to be arrested for dealeing with stolen property. If you take it to the police and no-one ask for it in a given time frame, then it is legaly yours, that's the law. Also some pawnshop owners might try to blackmail you for a cheap price in exange for not calling the police. And beside the police is the "Taxes". Be care full in the black market you can get yourself killed or arrested; in the legal market you can get arrested for dealing with stolen property, or fined for not reporting to the tax office.

Remember not all dimons are worth thouthands of dollar, some are just a few hundreds worth, or less, and much more less if it have been repetedly used to SCRATCH glass.

I own a pawnshop If you don't know if they're reputable don't use them. Take the stone to a jewelry store to determine if it's real or not then ask the jeweler about a price range. you'll probably get around 15-25% of retail. That's not just in a pawnshop, when you buy diamonds new from a jewelry store the mark up is phenominal.

Take it to a reputable jeweler to make sure it's real. Ask them about the 4 C's. Based on the 4 C's, look over their inventory and find one about the size and clarity of the diamond you found. Then, you will know the retail value.

Your ring is Blue Topaz. The Blues interior the Topaz are the main familiar. This gemstone is presented in many distinctive colorations. Sky Blue Topaz, Swiss Blue Topaz and London Blue Topaz. this is not a diamond. Had it been a clean Topaz that's additionally obtainable, it could be fallacious for diamond because it has a different crystal shape that makes it dense.

Take it to a jeweler and get it appraised. Then try to sale it on ebay or in the paper! A pawn shop will not give you anything for it! Good Luck

Take it to a jeweler first. They will give you a estimate on what it is worth. Be honest and tell them you found it. Take it to a couple of different ones.. You should then know exactly how to deal with a pawn shop.

Go to a jewler they will be able to tell you.
a real dimond will most likely have a number engraved on it to tell who it belongs to. they put the number on with a lazer.
take it to several places so you dont get cheated.
Also a good jewler will tell you the cut clarity and value of a dimond. but you should report it, If it was stolen you have stolen materials and can go to jail, report it and you will have no trubble.
