There's a Howard Johnson's on N. Ocean Drive (just past the cool areas) that had decent packages (ours included a free rental car) that was incredibly cheap -- it was 4 of us saying in 2 rooms.

There are a bunch up in Fort Lauderdale (about 25 miles from Miami)... On the ocean, cheaper, safer, etc. Try Lauderdale By The Sea (just north of Fort Lauderdale)...
