I don't know much about chains and have never put them on before. Any help would be appreciated!

unless you live in some totally rural area with steep mountains I would go with the quick mount type chain, cable or other. Just use them as directed to get you unstuck and dismount as soon as possible.

Cable chains are easier to use. Link chains will give you better traction and longer life. Have someone who has chain experience show you how to install whichever you choose. The maximum recommended speed with chains is usually 30mph. If you go faster, you can break a chain and do some fairly major damage to your car.
