Check out the seller's history very carefully. I've used ebay many times and have only had one bad experience when the product was badly mis-described and they refused me a refund. But in more than 120 transactions, that's not bad and the money I've saved buying from ebay has covered my loss a hundredfold.

Remember when you read these replies that you're only likely to hear from disgruntled users - so you're likely to get an unfairly biased view - people who are happy tend not to respond!

Overall, I think, I would say I know that eBay is safe and reliable because I have bought many items there over a period of several years, some low end items and some quite pricey. As the other answerer told you, it is always good to check out a seller's feedback. Look for whether the person says they received their item on time, whether is was well packed, if the seller is friendly and cooperative. In all the years I bought items through ebay, I only experienced two instances where the items were not well packed. When you bid is a matter of personal preferences, but I preferred to bid during the last few seconds of the auction much to the consternation of some people. Good luck and if you have any further questions, you can e-mail me.

I have been buying items on ebay for years and I can't really recall any bad experiences. However, I am also very careful when using ebay. You have to check the seller's feedback. If the seller has negative feedback or very little feedback I would stay away. I try to only buy from seller's with a lot of feedback and most, if not all, of it being positive feedback. Read item descriptions carefully, especially things like shipping costs. If you have any questions or doubts contact the seller before you bid, not after. As long as you are careful, ebay is generlly safe and reliable.

e-bay is one big worldwide shop, remember that, think of a back street seller right up to Harrods, so your question is like asking is it safe to shop in the world!
1. Look at sellers score and feedback, stick to 98-100% sellers only.
2. Use Paypal, there is comeback if you do not receive goods if you pay with paypal.
3. If selling NEVER send goods until you PHYSICALLY have money in your hand - we were scammed for £200 by someone posing as paypal - be warned!
4. If it seems too good to be true it probably is.
I have purchased many items all ok from pop sox to a car, be careful and enjoy, oh and when bidding time it carefully and bid in last 10 secs, usually works!
Good Luck

Ok, I bought a few items and,( first) Checkout the fraud information.
Usually the kinds of things your going to get riiped off on ar tech item, pricey, and what are not easily availble in the stores
in mycase a Biometric fingerprint Lock. When I aske for a copy of the reciept or a serial number. To do a check on the item the person could not produce it. All she had was a copy of someone else item for sale.

She offered free shipping,( Right ) red flag who wants to lose money shipping, all she had was a hotmail account and a voice mail

and of course her paypal account
She also used a ID that was so similar to another person
That I found i was looking at a history feed back of another person until I checked and rechecked.

anyway my other buys gave me good feedback Like super fast pay and she gave me a negative saying I refused to pay.
And I gave her on too so crosscheck.
so go with someone who has a good history or a store and a power seller rating

After all that someone called me and offered me all this help opening my own ebay store support for three bucks, all they wanted was my checking account routing number LOL
So be careful

I've never had ay problems with ebay apart from one seller who misadvertised the item. Always check someones feedback score before bidding and wait until the last couple of minutes of the auction to bid.

when making a purchase from eBay I strongly suggest your check out their feedback before you bid or pay. See what other ebayers posted about the item they purchased and received.

My boyfriend buys and sells from eBay all the time. Out of all the times hes bought from eBay, only one item he payed for (almost $400.) he didn't receive. He contacted eBay and paypal to get his money back and they were no help.

so just be careful and check everyones feedback!!
Good Luck!!

Yeah, for the most part it is safe but with any form of trading you'll get people who want to screw over other people.

I've had 50+ transactions on eBay and haven't had a problem yet.

Tips would be to familiarize yourself with the procedures for ebay, ie. buying/returns etc.
Also check out the seller, through feedback.
The most important is to know what you are buying, as in how much it should cost, what it looks like, specifications etc. So that you can be sure what you are buying is what you want.

I've had 500 transactions now and only 2 were bad ones. I always pay with paypal and they sort out the problems but remember to complain to them if you haven't received the goods after a couple of weeks as there is a strict time limit

I only bought 1 item through Ebay, and I was very pleased with how everything went. It's very secure, otherwise they would be off-line very fast. I got an item of electronics, paid through PayPal, and everything went very well. I would do it again in a heart beat.
