Cowgirl, the only thing I can tell you is, I was out there for 13yrs, and CRST, SChneider, Swift, and various others are famous for keeping you out there for long periods at a time, These other guys and gals are right, he may have to take this job just to get the experience, it sounds allright to me also, but always keep in mind, and keep searching for a company that gives you a lot more home time than these "hungry wolves" do !! These big companies are nationwide and they will tend to keep you out a lot, which is bad for a family, believe me I know!! Probably try to find a smaller company, preferably in your home town area, that runs regional, then you would have more home time !! Try to stick it out at least a year, then you'll have a foot in the door so you can find a company that will suit you, DO NOT listen to those advertisements at the truck stop, they make the jobs sound too wonderful, they are not!! Talk to drivers that have been there and have experienced other companies. (sorry for the long letter)

Yeah, it sounds like w/ no experience this may be his best bet for now. It is hard to be away from hubby for that long all the time, I hope you are prepared. (my hubby owns trucking company but no longer drives). Another option may be looking into UPS or FEDEX if they are in your area. They pay excellent and great benefits (my cousin works at ups). I do have to say though, finding a trucking job that offers any benefits at all is good. Not all trucking jobs offer that.

If he has no experience, that may be his only option. Other companies have similar programs. It is just a case of finding the one that best fits your lifestyle and situation.

If he has 2 or more years of experience, then he needs to go to a company that hires experienced drivers and pays them a commensurate wage.

CRST (CEDAR RAPIDS STEEL TRANSPORT) is a fine outfit and their deal is competitve I am sure, as the need for drivers is great and keeping good ones is very imporant so they are all real close.since your health is at risk from day one always keep looking for the better deal as trucking is a hard lifestyle that is hard to sustain-weight gain ,kidney problems and diabetes are all very real concerns
