My roommate and I are both poor college students who spilt our rent in half. Our rent for our apartment is about $650 a month w/o counting utilities. Our apartment isn't really that big and can only fit two people. Last night my roommate comes home from work and tells me she is thinking about getting another roomate for her to spilt her half of the rent with. So that means I still pay $325 and she and her friend only pay like $160 each! That would also mean that my roommate would spilt her half of the utilities fees with her friend and I still pay my full half! Is this BS or what? And how do I handle this b/c I'm the one that found the apartment!?

As a landlord, I do not allow my tenants to have persons not named on the lease to occupy the dwelling for more than 30 consecutive days. Tenants are not allowed to sub-lease the property either. If the property is occupied by more than one tenant over the age of 18, each occupant of that description is fully responsible for the total payment of rent and to abide by the terms of the lease. In other words, read your lease!

No its not fair... what you should do is spilt the rent and utilites 3 ways. If she doesnt find that to be fair then consider finding yourself a new room mate that wont complain about $325 dollars. Seriously though where do you life that an apartment is $650 a month... I pay close to 1k and i'm so not complaining!

I had a similar situation. My rent was something like $465. Well, my friend moved here after her and her old roommates had a fight and the moment she moved into my apartment, she started to pay a third of the rent, the cable, internet, and electricity. I was living on using my cell phone as my house phone and she decided to add a phone line to the apartment and paid it all. Three ways would only be the right thing to do.

The fair thing to do is to split the rent 3 ways and also the utilities. This could be a proposal that should help you both out, not just her. Sit down together and talk this out.

Tell her any split is 3 ways. Also if your name is on the lease and not hers, you can deny her paermission to move anyone at all into the place.

real friends are hard to find,i agree with u,I would probably have been assertive about this, you should tell her how she feels and if she doesn't respect your feelings, then she doesn't respect you,you should find a true friend that wouldn't do this b.s. and kick her out along with her buddy
