IF they are not listed in the add/remove programs then go to program files and see if they are listed there, if they are open the file, if they have a uninstall icon click it and follow the prompts, if they dont you will have to right click file by file deleate. Items on the start menu you can do the same but some you will have to right click the toolbar and there are some options there you can use to clean that area. Beware, some files are write protected meaning windows wont let you deleate them due to some are apart of the o.s. After all this you will need to get a registry cleaner to clean up the broken files in the registry. Registry Mechanic works great or pcpitstop.

First of all the best way to delete or Uninstall programs is by using that program's uninstall.exe. Go to your start menu and look for the uninstall icon of a program you don't want. If it has one, click it and wait for it to prompt you for what to do next. Sometimes after uninstalling a program it still leaves it's shortcuts on your desktop or start menu. If that happens, simply right click the shortcut and select delete.
Now, if your program DOESN'T have an uninstall icon, then go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs. It will populate a list of your programs. Click the program you don't want and click the Change/Remove button. Becareful! You don't want to delete something you need! If you're not sure, then DON'T remove it. Again, after the uninstall check to see if it left it's shortcuts on your desktop and start menu. Just delete them if they're there.
Lastly, if the program doesn't have an uninstall icon in the start menu AND there isn't a Change/Remove button in the Add/Remove Programs list, then you'll need to download the Microsoft Installer CleanUp Utility found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Once you download that, you'll be able to remove any program that won't let you remove it otherwise. Again becareful not delete something you need or are not sure of.
Good Luck!

When you say you went to your control panel, did you also go to "add/remove Programs" inside your control panel???
The programs aren't actually listed in your control panel. Only the link to remove them is.
Most programs are stored in your c:/program files directory.
If you go there and look thru the folders, you could usually double click on a folder and find a file that says "uninstall or unwise" that will remove the program.
However, a word of caution.
There are some programs on your computer that need other programs in order to run.
For example. If you delete internet exployer, then Yahoo messenger will not work.
Just be very careful on what you are deleting.

If you right click your start menu, you can click explore and then go and delete the stuff you don't use. That will not really free up space though. You may need to go to c:\program files and remove them by hand in Window Explorer. Be careful!

Not necessarily. From what I understand, windows vista needs to run off of at least 2 gb of memory for your computer to run smoothly. I have windows vista too and I have 2 gb and I works fine. My mom on the other hand, only has one gb and hers always crashes. So I would suggest gettin more memory because I'm pretty sure u have more than enough space on your hard drive so erasing programs would not be the solution at all. U need more memory. Defraging your hard drive once a week or so might help too. Hope this helps!

The icons are safe to delete as long as the programs have been uninstalled.
