Old Metallica was hungry and had something to prove. New Metallica are Dad's and Husbands. Its a job now. The hunger has been satisfied. Once Bob Rock came aboard, they were finished as the kings of Thrash Metal. He ruined them, and they allowed it to happen. I knew the tide had changed, when at the Black Album listening party at MSG, there were so many NON metal fans around. It signaled the beginning of the end.
Some Kind of Monster showed what they have become. OLD MEN! James needs to have a shot and STFU. He is more worried about picking up the kids at soccer practice then writing a kick *** song. They are multi millionaires...They should have called it a day years ago...They got their break with underground tape trading. When they went after Napster, they lost all the METALNESS they ever had. Sell outs to the end...Same too, cause MoP is the greatest Metal record EVER!!! How the mighty have fallen...

The old metallica is the only real metallica. The new "metallica" is basically a rip off of all the popular "metal" bands of the early 2000's like System of a Down.

Old metallica by far. I agree with the new metallica going down hill. They have been in it so long that theres no where else to go but down. Age is setting in! just kidding.

I love old Metallica. I think the new Metallica is just a bunch of spoiled brats that are over rated. I haven't bought a Metallica album since the black album. I feel that album became so commerical that they sold out. Everything since then has been made-for-radio pretty much, in my opinion.

Maybe someone should email a link to this question to James and Lars. Maybe it will open their eyes to the fact that waiting 6 years to put out an extremely crappy album is just not cutting it.
St. Anger was the big load of SLOP I have ever heard. And this is coming from someone who saw Metallica live 15 times between 1987 and 1992.

I have always loved Metallica but I must say I prefer the old stuff, the new seems to be a wee bit too commercial sometimes.

Well, Metallica is one of my all time favourite bands,
& to be honest, I prefer their Older stuff (I mean kill 'em all till Black album.''.
I don't mean that I hate their Load-Relaod era, they're nice in their own genre comparing to other bands at that time.
Actually I don't really like St.Anger, because it's far away from their masterpieces, I think.
But their 80's stuff (especially Master of Puppets)are brilliant!
I mean those albums can't be compared to any other albums, ever!
That was the true Metal, which Black Sabbath invented.
Metallica for me, is like Bethooven or Bach in our time!!
James Hetfield is a perfect songwriter, musician & singer...
Long Live Metallica!!

I love the old, but I still like the new. I think the middle was the best though, Justice and Black album. I like Load and Reload too, but Love Master, Ride and Kill 'em All. I think the newest album sounded very "tinny", the songs were ok, but they were recorded weird,
