i'm a vegetarian, my main source of protein is soy, and of course legumes. my baby came out perfect. 9lb 2oz, 22" long healthy baby boy. i did know some one at my church who was concerned how my baby would turn out due to the soy. he said his wife was big on soy while she was preggers, and their little girl (who is now 5) has had a lot of health problems when it comes to allergies. my boy couldn't have regular formula, he had to have soy. but, i planned on feeding him soy anyways. he is fine with dairy now. he eats cheese and joghurt, and has tried ice cream. (only a few bites. i don't want cavities, or any issues with obesity, but it's okay to indulge every now and then. :) ) if you are really concerned talk to your doc. but, from personal experience, soy is fine.
good luck!

I've had two kids and been a vegetarian for years. I ate all types of beans and legumes, including soy, throughout both pregnancies, with my ob/gyn's blessing. Edamame is a completely natural, whole food product. I could see a doctor becoming concerned with a woman consuming large quantities of phytoestrogens distilled down into a pill or taken in a shake during pregnancy. It would probably be impossible to consume enough whole edamame or brick tofu eaten as actual food to do damage to yourself or your growing baby.

Avoid eating any shark, swordfish and marlin. Limit the amount of tuna you eat to no more than two tuna steaks a week or four medium-size cans of tuna a week. This is because of the levels of mercury in these fish. At high levels, mercury can harm a baby's developing nervous system Avoid raw shellfish when you're pregnant. This is because raw shellfish can sometimes contain harmful bacteria and viruses that could cause food poisoning, which can be extremely harmful to the baby. hope i helped
