you could use cream all over but the best treatment would be to give him a bath with warm water and a little bit of mild bubbles (johnson's soothing naturals is really good) and then let him run around naked for a while. putting a new diaper over it isn't going to help make the rash go away any faster, you're only keeping the germs next to it. bump the heat up a few degrees and keep an eye on him. if the rash isn't significantly better (or completely gone) by tomorrow morning then i'd call the doctor. good luck!!

It may be more than a diaper rash... it might be a yeast infection.
You should have it looked at by a doctor. Try leaving him without a diaper as much as possible, and make sure the area is dry before putting a diaper back on.
You might need to try a different brand of diaper.

If you can let him run around a little without a diaper, letting the air hit it will be best. Otherwise, skip diaper wipes, use warm water and Dove soap instead, use a product called Triple Paste (or Desitin will work) and attach the diaper loosely at his waist.
If the rash is open anywhere or oozing, he needs to see the doctor.

Yes it is just a diaper rash sounds like a bad one my daughter used to get some nasty ones use a white cream diaper rash ointment or baby powder with cornstarch in it works well too and be sure to change him often and give him a bath daily until its gone =)

For all 3 of my children, when they have a diaper rash I used A&D ointment. Have you thought about changing brands of diapers. Huggies always broke out my children bu tPampers swaddlers, not baby dry, never have irritated them. Don't use wipes again until the rash is cleared up, use a washcloth, the wipes will only irritate it even more. Set him in a tub of warm water, this will also sooth it.

He is probably allergic to that type of diaper. I would suggest you try another brand, and/or switch to cloth diapers for a while. It's very common to be allergic to the chemicals that they use in the diaper.

I did home daycare for ten years, plus I have two kids of my own, for instant relief, put liquid antacid,( such as mylanta, or any store brand will do too,)on his rash, it really works to take the "burn" and pain out quickly.I know it sounds weird, but a Nurse at my kids pediatricians office told me about it years ago , it really works.
