The 90s song was Pulp and it is indeed a classic.
"You wanna live like common people
You wanna do whatever common people do"
Filled with vitriol about the well-to-do who think life on the breadline might actually be a bit of a laugh.
Paul Young's song was a hit in the 80s and more about the idea of community spirit - the subject isn't wealthy, but is "living in the love of the common people".
~A bit of a difference between the two!
