It is true that the ******* who know how to malipualte the media get a lot of attention, but it is the true player who gets the real respect. They get their props where it count, from their team mates and fans. ESPN and other media outlets run the other stuff into the ground becaue they think people want to watch it and that creates ad revenue, do not let this get confused with real respect. Plus a real team player does not do things for media attention, they do it for the good of the team. The Hall of Fame will recognize Marvin Harrison....it will never recognize TO...or AHole as he is know in my home.

Marvin Harrison will get his props when he retires. He will walk right into the HOF and Owens will be outside whining because he did not get enough votes. If you remember, Owens did not make it to the pro bowl even though he led the league in receiving TDs. That should speak for something.

Depends who they are "getting their props" from. For example, T.O. may get a lot of headlines, but that is the media's fault. Yet, for those who actually follow the games, they are aware of the fact that someone like Olin Kreutz is going to another Pro Bowl. Another example - someone in baseball, like Brad Ausmus, calls a great game and is very good defensively. He is the defensive general. But he doesn't hit HR's and is simply adequate for his position hitting-wise. But ask any SP in the game who they would rather throw to - Mike Piazza or Brad Ausmus. I think Ausmus would be the 99% answer. Players recognize their peers' abilities, which means more to them than any fan or media poll.

Team play doesn't get you on Sports Center, individual does. The loudest flashiest players get the attention.

Well Hines Ward still gets some attention, or maybe that is mostly the Pittsburgh market.
