I'm not really out of shape, I mean I'm 5'7'' and weigh 170. I'm strong and have a pretty toned body, except for my stomach. I think it's from drinking too much beer. I used to be ripped because I never drank and I worked out all the time.

I've stopped drinking beer, I run a mile every day, and after I run I lift weights and do crunches for about an hour. I also started eating healthier foods. But after a couple weeks I weigh the exact same and don't seem to be losing the weight. What am I doing wrong? I feel like i'm getting into shape but when I step on the scale I haven't lost any weight.

Start out with one mile per day for one week.
Then do two miles per day for one week.
Then do three miles per day for one week.
Then do four miles per day for one week.
Then do five miles per day for one week.
Every week add another mile, and so on.
Do this until you reach a level of miles per day you want to keep running.

If you STOP for even one day you will gain back what you lose.
This is because you have to keep your body running at t set pace and distance, in order to lose weight.

I run 5 miles per day and that keeps the weight off, but if I stop I regain pounds. That is because I have slowed my motabolism down, and it gets lazy and hungry. Running produces endorphines [feel good hormones]. This is why runners are always so upbeat, indorphines help depression & anxiety disorder.

Eat fish, Skinless chicken, Shell fish, and lots of fruits & veggies. And you will see a HUGE difference.

ALSO you need to eat a small breakfast, then have a little snack between breakfast & lunch.
Then have a small lunch, then have a little snack between lunch & dinner.
When dinner times rolls around have a healthy but moderate dinner, your meat should be no larger a serving than the size of your wallet. Your veggies about 1/2 cupful, your fruits about 1/2 cup full, and try eating sugar & fat free candy, cakes, etc.

DO NOT EAT within 4 hours PRIOR of going to bed for the night. OTherwise your body will turn the food you eat into POUNDAGE while you sleep. Your metabolism slows down when you sleep, and if you have something on your tummy it won't use it the right way. Instead it will turn it into FAT & not MUSCLE or ENERGY.

My brother runs 17 miles a day, he taught me this about running. I learned the other things myself.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

Your metabolism has slowed down so while exercise 5 years ago may have done wonders, you now need to work out for a prolongued period of time to achieve the same gains.

Simply put, you need to work out at 80% of your maximum effort for the next month or so. 4 days a week is suffice.

Then, reduce your caloric intake by 10%. To do this, limit snacking. Eat a healthy breakfast and do not skip meals.

If you do this, then by the end of the month you would have lost more weight. Also note: having a health sciences degree the notion of "toning" a single area of the body is impossible. Fat locates around the gut and rear, and when you work out, that's where you remove it from.

So give me my best answer, wait a month, and enjoy proving me correct.

Running does not even start to burn fat until after at least 15 minutes. 1 mile is probably not enough. It makes for a good warm up for lifting but if you want to lose weight, try 3 or 5 miles at a slower rate. Its the total fat burned, not the speed in which that fat is burned.

to lose weight you should only run. Running develops the muscles in your legs but wont develop any of your muscles in your upper body. Muscle mass=more weight. Your problem is that you've only ran 1 mile per day and lifted. Lifted is good excercize but it builds alot of muscle and at this point it sounds like all you want to do is lose that flab. RUN! or bike or even swim. concentrate on CARDIO

i must say i am Glad to hear that you are feeling a bit better. I see that the pirate theme is back!
While I was in Disney World, I got a chance to ride the new revamped Pirates of the Carribean (sp?). It was really cool how they worked Captain Jack Sparrow into the ride. They even had a guy dressed up as him outside the ride giving tips on how to be a pirate. The kids seem to love that character!

It sounds like your workout plan is fine, except what you are eating. You need protein and please cut down sugar and fat.

Read the nutrition label you'll know what you are getting. My suggestion is to eat wheat, pasta, turkey and ham. Fruit is good but it has natural sugar. More important, no junk food.

I used to be overweighted according to my height. After I followed the rules, I lost 14 pounds (mostly fat) in 10 weeks, and it never went up.

hey, it is ok. you losing fat but you gain muscles. you can't lose weight by working out. you will gain lean muscles doing that. If you realy want to lose weight and your weight is over norma - you have to cleanse your body inside and to regulate your meals.

Muscle weighs more than fat. You might look better but weigh the same. Also give it more time than a few weeks. You should probably run more than one mile. Cardiovascular workouts should be at least 30 minutes. It does not have to be running though.
