i just heard about this woman named maribel nava alvaraz (who attended public schools since she was seven yrs. old) who won a corvette from some radio station (la ley in chicago) and she cant claim it due to her being an illegal immigrant...what is worse is that the station and the Spanish Broadcasting System has an attorney that is waiting on her to sue the station...because if she files suit...then they can go after her and report her to the INS...
since then she has fled illinois, and has been in hiding for the past 8 months, and hasnt seen any family members since...what are your thoughts on this?

I believe she should not receive the car. Contests have rules, usually age restrictions, citizenship rules, etc. If you don't meet all the requirements you are not eligible to compete in the first place. People tend to ignore their responsibilities and focus solely on their rights. Also, I have mixed views on the illegal alien issue. First, they are not taking jobs from Americans because they do the work citizens wont. (How many people do you know who want to be a migrant farm worker or work in a sweat shop). Second, most are here because the government of Mexico is so corrupt and there is no work. They simply want to work, live and care for their families, like we do. I know we can't solve Mexico's corruption problems. Lord knows we have enough of our own in Washington. What does annoy me is that it appears to be so easy for so many illegals to collect money when they don't pay taxes, etc. I don't believe in giving them amnesty because our laws need to be upheld. Others try for years to get in legally. That is unjust for them.

Most contests state that you must be a legal resident of the United States to qualify. If that was the case with this contest as well, then no, she should not get the car.

Also, it doesn't matter how long you are illegally here, if you are here illegally, you shouldn't be here. A friend of mine worked very hard over the past 20 years to jump through all of the hoops to bring the rest of his family here. Its sad when other people try to "steal" the same thing that he had to work so hard for.

This is really too bad for her....

I wonder how she had attended schools all the previous years while she was an illegal immigrant !!!

I think she should give Power of Attorney to an American Native friend and not straight to an advocate...It would be easier for the attorney to move with a better space than him receiving it straight from her...

Had I been the Radio Station Manager, I would have tried to find ways through which she doesn't loose the car...

SHAME ON THEM....but I think they are obliged & restricted to receive her crudentials / proper identification of hers prior to handing her over the prize....

Anyways, tough luck for her, and wishing her best of luck...

Good, get the illegals out (if they are truly here illegally). She is not eligible to win the car because she isn't a legal resident (this is standard procedure in most radio contests). She should NOT receive the car.
