Yes if you realise that the dream is a dream then you can do anything you like. I did that once, in the dream I was at school on the first floor of a building, so I jumped out of the window and went flying over the school grounds.
Knowing a dream is a dream is called lucid dreaming. I've been in this situation a few times (but only taken advantage of it the once) and each time I've worked out it was a dream because of time issues, such as going to bed on a friday night and having a dream about being at school. There are other ways of telling as well, apparently in dreams if you stare at your hand it will often have the wrong number of fingers or else you will be able to see partially through it. There are other methods of telling if you are dreaming and if you do these often while awake then you will do it in your dream as well, realise you are dreaming, and be able to take control of it.
You can do anything you want in a lucid dream, they're amazing. If you ever think 'hey wait, this is a dream', don't try to wake up, take advantage of it and enjoy yourself.
If you want more information, there is plenty on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_dreaming
Hope this has been useful!

Generally, I enjoy my dreams. I have at times realized I was dreaming, and acted on that realization. So, I guess you could say that there are times when you can control your dreams. However, it is hard to keep control. You either forget that you know you're dreaming, or you wake up. BTW: Although we may dream many times during the night, the only dreams we remember are the ones we wake up from.

I have a dream that is paralyzing to me. I have learned after the 3rd or 4th one how to get my conscious into my subconsious and begin to analyise the dream and how it is illogical and that I am in a dream . In a split second I am on the edge of my bed awake before my eyes even open.
You can stay in them and stear them as well.
Cool thought on Heaven, plane and planet!!!!!!

when I'm like half asleep i can control the dreams but just in a general way, i push it along to something good and then let my subconscious take care of the details. and if i have a bad dream i can make myself wake up or change theme or rationalize the fear away (still sleeping)
BTW, what kinds of things were you told you can do when you control your dreams?

Yes you can control your dreams. I can control mine. Think positive thoughts and it will come true in your dream. Think negative thoughts and it will also come true. You can control it to be the way you want it to be but you must realise that you are in a dream.

I rarely remember any dreams--the few I do are way out there, don't make much sense at all. It could be that one of the medications I take makes me sleepy, and wake up groggy.

think of one thing repetitively when you get drowsy. once you fall asleep your brain should keep processingthat thought an create a picture of it. once the dream starts it's just like life, you can interact, just be careful because scientists and doctors say that if you fall, wake yourself up because if you hit the ground you supposedly can actually suffer injuries.
