the worst culprite of this is Shane from Westlife (singing in the band for like 7 years and he still can't mime!)

They're not great singers, so they have to make a tape and then the tape is "enhanced" to improve the sound.
Their managers understand it's not about the music anyway. People pay to watch because they are fascinated.

They don't have the production qualities of a recording studio and a producer to cover up the shortcomings in their flimsy voices when they "perform" live.
