If you have ever been a victim of identity theft, you know that it can ruin your life.
They should have to make full restitution to the victim, pay court and legal fees for the victim, and serve a minimum of 15 years for a first offence. Each time they do this to someone, the prison term should increase by 10 years.

Restitution to the victim
All court costs
All attorney fees
Jail sentence based on severity. How about a dollar a day or each dollar they spent using the assumed identity.

Also think it should be easier for the victim to be able to piece back there life. Identity theft can ruin a persons life.

Restitution to the victim, of course. PLUS, punitive damages.

Prison time of 5-15 years for bonafide identify thieves.

Probably not as harsh for the teenager that steals her mother's credit card for a weekend. They call that identity theft too, but its not in the same class.

Since they are obviously sneaky and disreputable people who will most likely just go right back to stealing and embezzling anything in sight, Society needs to write them off!
I would recommend an isolated work camp for the ever growing number of them to do forced labor till death!
With that as a deterrent, people might just find it very wise to be who they are-I am sure some cases might justify leniency, but it is a serious crime!

Now, what do we do when it occurs over National Borders?

Court costs, attorney fees, pain and suffering money to the victim, and jail time.

Unfortunately, no one takes this seriously. The credit card companies just write off the loss. They tell you to contact the Postmaster General and get them to prosecute for mail fraud. The credit card companies can't be bothered.

We should be able to sue them for all they are worth (which apparently isn't much anyway). Reimbursment & imprisonment for 25+ years. Technically they have the right to a fair trial and a free attorney so yeah...

Repayment of all stolen money and valuables to the victim(s), court costs, attorney fees, and jail time.

Unfortunately, most of those people don't have any money to begin with. You can't get blood from a rock.

I think the identy thief should be given the immediate death penalty--they tried to take away YOUR life. Yes, they should be made to pay court costs for their trial.

They should get life in prision and their identies taken away since their real ID wasn't good enough. Yes they should have to pay money back to the community for their stupidity.
