Jennifer Holiday was not a Supreme:the original Supremes were Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard, and the infamous Diana Ross.

Jennifer Holliday is from a later period than the Supremes. She sang "I am Telling You" back in the early 80's - 81/82. The Supremes came out in the 60's, they were Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard, who was later replaced by Cindy Birdsong. The character of Effie in Dreamgirls is based on Florence Ballard, who basically died ill and penniless after being booted from the group.

I agree with HiphopGrandma except she left out that Jennifer Holiday is the original Effie (Jennifer Hudson's character in Dreamgirls). Dreamgirls was originally a broadway play in the '80's based very closely on The Supremes.

No, she wasn't a Supreme. It went like this:
Florence Ballard, Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, and Mary McGlown were the originals. McGlown left in 1961, and was replaced by Barbara Martin, who also left in 1961. Ballard left in 1967, and was replaced by Cindy Birdsong (ex-Patti LaBelle and the Blue Belles). Ross quit, and was replaced by Jean Terrell in 1969. Birdsong was replaced by Lynda Laurence in 1972, but returned in 1974; Terrell was replaced by Sherrie Payne in 1974. Birdsong was replaced by Susaye Green in 1975. Wilson quit and group disbanded in 1977.
