I have made sure that i added the @hotmail.com, and it really isnt a person its a robot. smarterchild. but i accidentally deleted it a while ago and i want it back. but when i try to re-add it a message says "You have previously added a contact who uses this instant messaging address. A contact's instant messaging address must be unique."

Are you adding the email address?
Make sure it has msn.com, hotmail.com or any other msn based email address after it.
Stuff like yahoo, aol or other providers won't work.

Everything Reflectio... && Memories said is true, except you CAN add some people outside of hotmail. It's a few selected few, but you can connect someone from yahoo. However, for this feature, you must be using the latest version of MSN (Windows Live).

if you re using messenger live, try writing the address to the blank on the main window
