There is a sound like metal against metal every time i brake also when i was driving i think 1 of the engine mounts fell off because i could hear something breaking off from the engine and ever since then the car kind of jutters alot and has lost alot of power.

If the engine mount breaks you risk damage to the engine. Would be a good idea to have it looked at and/or replaced to avoid additional costs if the mounts break. The mount basically holds the engine in place so if there's too much give the engine could shift or just plain fall down. But definetely have a mechanic look at it they'll be able to tell you how much longer you can drive it without risking damage.

I had an 04 mitsi lancer and after a wreck i had 1 broken and another cracked engine mount. I got mine fixed within a month, and never really had any problems when driving it. Here's how they told me I could check the engine mounts, get someone else to sit in the drivers side while you are looking at the engine. Turn the car on and keep it in park, notice where the engine is. Ask them to put the car in reverse and then in drive. If the engine turns from an upright position to almost completely on its side in either position you probably need some new engine mounts. But do not forget that the engine is supposed to move from side to side a very small amount when it shifts so do not be alarmed at a small shift in engine position. How long has it been this way?

It should not damage the engine, but eventually it will break the other engine mounts and the engine will flop around damaging itself and the body of the vehicle (and the transmission mounts).
You should get the mounts examined if you cannot do it yourself and replace any bad ones, cheap fix now - expensive later

Hi

If you keep driving the car, the exhaust will eventually suffer breakage, as will any torque reaction link rubbers, but the engine will probably come out of it unscathed!

You may also feel the car pulling to one side as you accelerate due to axle movement.

It is probably the rear engine mount which has given up the ghost.

movement is expected in an older car. motor mounts are captive. it is the rubber that gets beaten and chewed. but there will be a big clunk as steel hits steel when they are really bad. if you have a modified engine with extra horsepower, they can break the mounts. they are designed not to break under normal conditions.as was said look

The engine may eventually spin... kidding. Seriously, it's not a big deal to replace the mounts, they should cost $50-70 a piece, and you should not need more than two.

it makes the other mount have more pressure on it if the one is broke. cheaper to fix now. as for your metal to metal sound when you brake. you have bad breaks. if you do not get this fixed you will also have to replace your rotors because they will have warped.
