I have Norton Internest Security as well as SpySweeper both fully current and fully operational.

I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems.
Some drive problems can be easily fixed by yourself using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.

If it does it while the computer is idle, its probably either a virus on your computer or it could be your antivirus scanning your hard drive. To check for viruses, update your Norton and run full system scan. To see if your antivirus is running a scan, you can open the task manager and try to see if any of the programs it shows running look like a virus scan.

Hi. You can see which programs are active using the Task Manager (Crtl+Alt+Del one time.) Click on the Processes tab then click on the CPU column and look for activity. Some programs, like indexing, run in the background pretty much always.

Your hard drive should be spinning a lot thats how it reads the information, but I doubt highly its because of a virus or spyware.
