What NEW system would be a reasonable way to run USA into a great success, without taking our BASIC freedoms, and way of "day to day life? The System today reminds me of Atlas ( the God w/ the world on his shoulders) - too much stuff piled onto a frail, impractical memory. The clauses they keep adding onto our "Constitution" voids out and makes it pointless anymore. Any ideas to add? Any thoughts on my above opinion? This kind of requires a discussion instead of an answer but I would still like to read your thought of this. Bye.

Actually, a two-party system was never what was intended. The following excerpt from an article my Joanne Freeman of Yale University gives an example.

"The presidential election of 1800 was an angry, dirty, crisis-ridden contest that seemed to threaten the nation's very survival. A bitter partisan battle between Federalist John Adams and Republican Thomas Jefferson, it produced a tie between Jefferson and his Republican running mate, Aaron Burr; a deadlock in the House where the tie had to be broken; an outburst of intrigue and suspicion as Federalists struggled to determine a course of action; Jefferson's election; and Burr's eventual downfall. The unfolding of this crisis tested the new nation's durability. The deadlock in the House revealed a constitutional defect. It also pushed partisan rivalry to an extreme, inspiring a host of creative and far-reaching electoral ploys. As a sense of crisis built, there was even talk of disunion and civil war, and indeed, two states began to organize their militias to seize the government if Jefferson did not prevail."

So you can see that the two-party system was never really practical in the eyes of our forefathers. To read more, please see the website provided.

The two party system no longer works because religion is playing too strong of a role. In the 17-1800's most people in America believed in the same god, ate the same foods, and basically led similar lives. Now the parties are way too divided, with the right trying to use religion to gain votes. There are too many laws trying to be enforced on both sides. The answer would be to keep religion out of politics, and enforce the laws already written ,and go back to the basics our forefathers used to create the constitution. Government for the people by the people, not for corporate America by corporate America.

Three parties does not work:

Two examples:

#1 George HW Bush would have beat Clinton in 1992 if it were not for Ross Perot

#2 Al Gore would have beat GW Bush in 2000 if it were not for Nader.

What I would like to see the US Election change to is a ranking system. That way people who voted Perot in 1992 could rank Bush #2, and those that voted Nader in 2000 could rank Gore as #2, and so on. Also, this would make it easy to have many more candidates on the ballot, and everyone would be more happy with the results.

I have three ideas that would greatly improve the system. Any one or combination of them would make this country great again.

1 - We need some sort of intelligence testing before allowing people to vote. If you don't even understand how the government works, who your representatives are, and what your role is, you should not be allowed to vote. I'm not saying that you have to be at genius levels to vote, but if you can't understand the system, how can you possibly make choices about how it is run?

2 - I would also like to see voting limited to land owners like it used to be. If you only rent, you don't have as much at risk. Why should a renter get to say how someone else's land is used?

3 - If you are on welfare, you DO NOT vote. It's representation without taxation. Why should people who have contributed nothing to the kitty get to decide how the money is spent?

Think about the stand still that would happen if we had a 10 party system.

i think when we vote for prez and vice one has to be dem, and one repb, then they become one party and control the gov they should not be able to choose who they want to pick to run with and the people vote who they want in charge and they should only be allowed to talk about themselves and if they mention the other party in any type of negitive way they would not be allowed to run
