i bought a razr last summer. a month later the screen boke. nice phones...but they're p.o.s! anyhoo, i need to call my insurance and get a new one. everyone tells me to report it lost as opposed to telling them it's broken. does it really make a difference? if yes, then why?

they reason the say to report lost as you wouldn't have to return the old phone, so you would have an extra battery etc. Will cost the same either way, just tell the truth and you'll sleep better at night : )

You are going to pay a deductible either way. I believe in honesty is the best policy. People are probably telling you to report it lost because you will get a "new" phone rather than telling them it is broken and you might have to send your phone back and they will just fix the one you have.

It all really depends on your insurance company. I thave Verizon and my phone (nokia flip phone) was coming off the hinge and I called them up and told them exactly that and they sent me a brand new phone and I just had to send my broken phone back.

It doesnt hurt to ask your insurance provider. Just explain the situation...they'll be helpful.

If you tell them it's 'lost', then you are lying to the insurance company and that, my friend, constitutes insurance fraud.
Best pony up the truth. They may not buy you a new phone, but you won't be going to jail over a $50.00 insurance fraud either.
