What would you to improve the American justice system?

Nothing in life is fool-proof and there are no easy answers. But, it seems these days the recidivism rate just keeps climbing higher and higher. Jails are almost becoming revolving doors. So many different things have been tried. Here in AZ good ol' "Sheriff Joe", has his "tent city" and chain gangs. In Florida they once tried to eradicate parole altogether with disastrous results! Then of course there was that "three strikes" thing that was tried for a while (3 felonies and your in jail for life!). So, if you were in charge...what would be your solution?

I think China has an interesting system of justice. I don't think we could use it here though. We're not overpopulated enough to justify it yet.
Obviously, I'm joking. I don't think there's an easy solution. We need more of everything. More jails, more police officers, more judges. They are constantly filled up, and often dismiss cases that really need more attention because they just don't have time.

1. Remove the "shield" law that prohibits police and prosecutors from being held legally accountable for deliberate violations of the law and procedures. A prosecuting attorney, for example, is required by law to turn over all evidence to the defense. Many times they "accidentally" fail to turn over evidence that is exculpatory. Look at that damn Nifong in the Duke rape case...he had laboratory evidence that showed none of the DNA taken to the lab from the accusing victim's panties matched DNA from any of the accused...yet not only did he fail to turn that evidence over, he also instructed the lab director NOT to speak of it.

2. It should be illegal for law enforcement officers to lie to a suspect UNLESS they have been to court and gotten a judge's permission to set up a sting operation. If they do lie, then the suspect should immediately go free with all charges dropped. I have tremendous respect for our law enforcement officials...their job often requires them to place themselves between us and a bullet. But there is an old legal adage that "the state comes into court with clean hands"...and right now, some of the police officers are no better than some of the sorry scum they investigate.

3. I'm basically a libertarian...and would like to see all drug use decriminalized. I do NOT believe that people should use drugs...and if someone drives a car while under the influence, they should be SEVERELY punished. But by decriminalizing drugs, we would take the tremendous profit out of the business...which would eliminate a lot of the crime...especially the drive-by murders...that make the "war on drugs" more dangerous than the drugs themselves.

I agree w/ Blair84. But I would also like to see public execution, put back into the mix. I strongly believe this will set a powerful example of the final result of an ugly crime such as murder, rape, child exploitation. Coming to watch is 100% voluntary.
Also, public humiliation for minor offense, such as stealing, home invasion, etc.
Drugs should be legal for addicts, they can go get their "fix" from government aided places use at home, or in private. Drug users will not be able to make babies, or work important jobs. They will be on file, and must show proof of effort of rehab - (think of the system for food stamps, for this one)

replace the regulations for contempt of courtroom. A choose does no longer be authorized to impose extra suitable than a nominal penalty for an alleged contempt of courtroom without a separate jury trial -- until eventually now a various choose. at modern, the powers of a choose are limitless.

Tougher the laws and Throw out Judges that are Lenient and gives criminals the Go Ahead to Abuse our Children, and Re-offend again and Again.

You need to listen and Watch to Bill O'Reilly he can tell you straight out that Judges gives Harden Core Criminals a Free-ride.

Make the punishments fit the crime. For instance I think a rapist or child molester needs to serve more time than someone caught selling pot!

I would allow random search and seizure. In two years 99% of illegal guns would be off the streets and drug use would drop by 4/5ths.

legalize drug let them all kill themselves, kill all cho Mo's, keep drunks in their own jail and feed them drinks till they are all dead, take the rapers and castrate them all, cut off all hands to the thief's, and beat the hell out of all physical abusers.
