After studying scores of great thinkers like Leonardo da Vinci, I think I've stumbled upon what really set them apart from the rest of the folks living (and thinking) at the same time.

It's remarkably simple. They learned how to entertain a thought.

Aristotle said, "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."

Hmmm. To entertain a thought without accepting it.

As far as I can see, it's important to be able to consider an opinion before dismissing it entirely. That would mean considering the possibilities of that opinion and what it stands for. It is an essential part of any debate to be able to understand how the other person came to that conclusion and then decide if you think that the opinion is a valid one or not.

So yes, I would say it is the mark of an educated mind to be receptive to most opinions. I say "most" because I would dismiss anything that was racist, homophobic or sexist.

True it is that. Here is your answer for this from google: It would allow brain-storming to go to a whole new level. And conflict resolution would be greatly advanced too. But I think our personal lives would vastly improve also if we allowed for the differing opinions of others. We can agree to disagree. But even better, we can even seek to see the other person’s perspective with clarity. Respecting another person’s perspective is mind changing and mood altering too. We simply are not right all of the time. And it frees us of an awful burden when we understand this. sorry (((buzzme))) this is not my expertise so I had to go to the net to get a good answer. Yes, though a person may not believe in Evolution they can entertain the thought, research it and decide for them selves if they believe that explanation. You can question the sincerity of another person but not accept that they are being 100% sincere. Infatically the answer is Yes.

Educated ... maybe, but not necessarily. It is certainly a sign of an independent thinker. Someone who trust their own judgment. I have always been this way, even as a child. I was always into making life my own experience. Doing it my way! I love to look at the world around me, deciphering how others are responding, what they are thinking and feeling; then deciding for myself what i choose to accept based on my own life perceptions.
