Before India can entertain any ideas of becoming a superpower on the world stage, it must address the crushing poverty faced by millions of Indian citizens.

I doubt it. It would first have to severly change its government. One of the ways you become a super power is by having a strong economy and India has to many restrictions and laws that hold back its economic growth. To start a buisness in India it has to be approved by the government and it can take up to months. Compared to the U.S. India has more govt. controll over buisness and it hurts them in the long run. It takes them longer to get what they need and while they are getting those things the rest of the world is passing them by.
