I landed hard on my tailbone and lower back. It was super painful to walk, sit, or, stand the rest of the day. Today the throbbing pain is gone. Now it's a dull ache and nauseousness and I have a bruise spreading up my back. Any advice?

Until I reached the part where you mentioned that you have nauseousness I would have simply suggested ice packs and some Ibuprofen (for the inflammation). I would still suggest those things (although you should have done those immediately for best results) - but I believe I would see a doctor because of the nauseousness if it doesn't go away VERY soon.

Take the ibuprofen according to packaging label.
Alternate the ice pack - on/off - do not just leave it on.

Check this website for other suggestions on relieving the backache pain.

I did this very thing a number of years ago and thought I was going to die from the pain! When I finally gave up and went to the doctor several days later . . . they took x-rays and told me I had just bruised my tailbone (which makes your whole body hurt!) and the only thing to do ws wait for the bruising to heal . . . of course they didn't hesitate to take my $$$$$. By the way, it takes weeks for the tailbone to heal and the soreness to go away, so don't expect immediate results even if you go to the doctor.

You will have to make a decision as to when to go to the doctor based on your own body. Good luck - and I hope you get some relief for the pain soon

I had a split level house one time and the steps were really steep going down and I did the very same thing..I ended up with bruises on my butt and lower back.I hurt for a couple of days and then it got ok ,no harm done...I would just suggest that if you are still hurting and nauseous the third day ,you might should see your doctor...Don,t take any chances..If you are feeling pain in your back you can put an ice pack on your back,do NOT use heat..heat can cause swelling on a hurt but ice will releave any swelling...Just watch and see how you do....If you have home owner insurance it will pay for it....

I fell like that and broke my tailbone, Ice the area and do not do any heavy lifting, try to find a chiropractor that can reset the bone, when I broke mine the orthopedic doctors, wouldn't do anything, once the pain got so bad that I couldn't walk up stairs, or lift anything, they wanted to remove the tailbone, I spoke with a woman who had, her tailbone removed and she was worse off than with having the tailbone there. So try to find a doctor or chiropractor who will be able to reset the bone, it's painful at first, but once it heals, believe me life will be better.

The bruise on your back could be a sign of internal bleeding. But it sounds more like just a bad bruise. The nausea is what worries me. Back injuries that include nausea or vomiting could mean spinal or head injury. If you hit your head also, you definetly need to see a doctor. Dont wait. If you have a back injury involving nerve damage nausea can also occur. It sounds like you may have bruised yourself pretty bad.

Ice can help.

Yes. See your doctor. Tailbone bruises, if that is all it is, can take up to a half year to recover completely from. Why? Because the spine bones have less blood circulation going to them which is needed for healing.

Go see your doctor. You are worth it.

OUCH!!

Sounds like the bruise is setting in today, and as long as its only bruised, you will simply have to baby yourself for a few weeks. If you experience any numbness or tingling in your legs, you may want to call your doctor.

Take some ibuprofrene for the pain and any swelling. You may want to consider taking a hot shower to also releive the pain.

All I can say is: I'm sorry, and OUCH!!

You should call your doctor. They may suggest that you go to the emergency room for examination. Nausea is not a usual side effect of a fall - so there may be something else wrong...

Sorry to hear about your fall! Take care!
