Why do you think China and Indo-China are they way they are?

I have been reading up on eastern philosophy lately and it seems to me like most of it is all about finding peace and love. I don't understand how China and North Korea and most Indo-China nations could be so brutal if they really follow the ideaology people like Confucius, and Buddah. I guess the same goes for the middle east.

it was communism that killed millions- in china, north korea & vietnam.
