Why is it that SOMEBODY can't invent a windshield wiper that actually works! Cars have almost every conceivable gadget that can do everything from GPS to voice commands to heated seats and mirrors. They can keep you from getting in accidents, diagnose themselves and tell you if something is wrong...you can watch movies or run a business from your car, but for some reason, the darn windshield wipers can't seem to clean off your windshield when you need them to! Why is that?

I have bought the expensive double and triple bladed kind and the winter kind and the cheap kind and they all still wear out within a month or two and leave streaks. And always right in my line of sight! I think it's a conspiracy!

I have not heard of a viable replacement for windshield wipers. The advice to change blades twice a year is a good recommendation. Although it is cheaper to buy only the rubber inserts, I always get the ones with the arm attached. Between changes, regularly cleaning the blades with glass cleaner will keep the blade contact area clean and sharp for better water removal. When windshield wipers park after turning them off, the rubber insert typically is bent in one direction. After a short time, the blade sets in this position and does not bend back and forth as easily (especially in cold weather) and consequently does not clean as well. Every once in a while, lift up the blade off the windshield and bend the insert the opposite direction. You will be surprised how much this helps.

Cause most people think you buy wipers once. When actually wiper blades should be replaced at least twice a year, if not 3 times. (once before winter, once before summer). Plus buying the cheap wipers over a better one will make you buy wipers more often.

Once they start to smear, its time to replace them. But most just let it go until its so bad they can't see.

you probably just need to change your wipers. when they get old they lose their flexibility and stop working properly.
