I like the Adam LaRoche deal. Even if he doesn't hit as advertised, he will provide solid defense at first. In fact, I am cautiously optimistic about the team. They do have a solid infield defense (LaRoche, Castillo, Wilson, and Sanchez), and the outfield is above average (Bay, Duffy, Nady), but my chief concerns are with their bench and pitching. The starting staff really doesn't have a proven veteran leader (Ian Snell and Zach Duke are the best of the lot, but they are still too young to be counted on as leaders), the bullpen doesn't have a closer (Salomon Torres? Matt Capps? Maybe even Bryan Bullington?), and they need speed (Rajah Davis?). Let me know what you in Yahoo think...

I tell you what brother, I have followed the Bucs for over 40 years and this is their best team since the early 90s. I honestly think the Pirates have a chance to compete this year! They have a good starting pitching staff, young but with a years experience under their belt. Even though they traded away Mike Gonzalez, they still have a great bull pen. I honestly think they will be contenders within two years!!!

I think ultimately their pitching staff is to young and all around, just not that good. I think they will be alright on offense and defense, but that staff will give up alot of runs. I can see them being about 20 games under .500 this year. They have promise in the minor leagues and with the young players on their current big league squad but this year is not the year. Remeber it's been almost 2 decades without a winning season.

The team has made improvements no doubt.

You have to like the direction Bay and Duke's careers are headed. Now if the rest of the guys could play well the team could do ok.

I aid you comprehend what brother, I even have accompanied the Bucs for over 40 years and it is their suitable team because of the fact the early 90s. i for my section think of the Pirates have a risk to compete this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days! they have a stable beginning off pitching team, youthful yet with a years adventure below their belt. even regardless of the easy certainty that they traded away Mike Gonzalez, they nonetheless have a stable bull pen. i for my section think of they are going to be contenders indoors of two years!!!

Sweet! Someone else dolling out love for the Crew! I say the Bucs finish above.... never mind. They're still bottom of the division haha. Five words: Sheets, Suppan, Capuano, Bush, Vargas. Best rotation in the NL if we can stay healthy

Slim and none, and Slim bought a plane ticket to Atlanta when the Pirates traded Gonzalez.

the team has made improvements but the division is packed with the cards and stros that have clearly better teams, better offense and defense than pittsburg. im not trying to be a butt about it but they will be out of it by the first month, so their chances are not so good

They seem nice for a weak division, but as i said before, this is the year of the brewers, so.... no pirate playoffs this year. Sorry my friend.

I appreciate the Pirates. They have the best stadium i've ever seen in my life. But, they will improve maybe one or two slots in their division. but no playoffs.
