No, I'm not a member of the Screen Actors Guild [SAG], nor am I a member of the American Federation of Radio and Television Artists [AFTRA]

Send your resume and headshot to the casting directors that do "extra" casting. Also, send your headshot to the casting directors of the soap operas taped in NYC, they are listed in The Ross Reports.

Buy a copy of The Ross Reports, available at large newstands in NYC, it has contact information. Are you SAG?

There was a Will Smith movie filmed in NYC this weekend. They used hundreds of extras.

Last year 300 movies were shot in NYC.

there are websites such as big crowds.
You can apply to these websites and other data bases of the same sort.
Also the best way is to just keep your eyes open for opportunities and hope you get lucky and stumble across one.

But I would definately recommend registereing at one of those online data bases.
