I think that Halle Berry has decent acting chops, but not fabulous by any stretch of the imagination. I am a little perplexed as to why she was chosen for her role in Monsters Ball, but hey she won and thats thats. I personally feel that Ms. Berry has made it as far as she has because of her looks and because of her sex appeal. The academy is still a little narrow-minded when it comes to the talents of blk film actors, but with the wins from Halle Berry and Denzel Washington maybe things will change. I do agree with you. I can think of a few other black actresses that are more deserving of an academy award: Angela Bassett, Kimberly Elise, Lisa Arrindell Anderson, Diane Carol, Cicely Tyson, Oprah Winfrey, etc.

That is a good question because I really don't know. To me out of all the strong, beautiful, classy black woman out there I think should have been picked, she would've been the last on my list.

I am not trying to hate on her but I feel that she does not portray us as women of color in a positive, classy way. Let alone, I don't feel she is the best actress-I feel that she gets off on her looks and her sex appeal and is willing to conform her values just to get ahead which is why I feel she has done so well.

If she could really act and was really the best, I don't feel she would need to take of her clothes or play raunchy roles and parts just to portray that, (and noone told her she had to do that-she chose to play those roles).

To say it plainly, if you asked me why she was chosen; I'd say I wouldn't put her that high on the pedestal, at all.
