hello pebbles,
Carfin is a small town to the north-east of Motherwell, Scotland, UK.
It is the home of Scotland's National Shrine, in honour of Our Blessed Lady in the Diocese of Motherwell.
It is a unique place for prayer. And within the grounds Carfin holds four quite different areas:
the Carfin Grotto, the National Marian Shrine of Scotland in the heart of Lanarkshire. here there are many shrines:
Our Lady of Lourdes
The Miriam Chapel
Lithuanian Shrine
The Polish Shrine
Pius X
Christ the King
Our Lady, Maid of the Seas Chapel
Carfin's Pilgrimage Centre, in the Diocese of Motherwell,
St Francis Xavier’s Roman Catholic Church and
the Reliquary Centre
The founder of this beautiful shrine is Canon Thomas Taylor who was inspired by a visit, he and a number of parishioners made to Lourdes around 1920. This led him to the realisation of building a dream - a replica of the Lourdes Grotto for the people of Scotland.
